### Purpose Of Mechanic

* Once players have progressed through a portion of the story or have elapsed sufficient playtime, natural disasters will occur occasionally. There are various types of natural disasters which can have positive or negative effects on the player and their land.&#x20;

#### Disaster example: Torrential rain&#x20;

Torrential rain causes the following effects

* Durability of factories on the land will decrease
* Some [building](https://craftdefi.gitbook.io/craftdefi-whitepaper-v0.5.0/4qyEUpv3t4fyVcgcy7Tb/gameplay/building "mention") may be damaged, causing them to not give [popularity](https://craftdefi.gitbook.io/craftdefi-whitepaper-v0.5.0/4qyEUpv3t4fyVcgcy7Tb/gameplay/challenge/popularity "mention") points until repaired
* Carbon will reduce at a greater rate
